These images were made, and selected from for an exhibition at the ICA in London in 1978 with Paddy Summerfield, titled Town and Gown. In the words of The Times review of the show, my images were of the ‘gritty ‘ side of Oxford — the car factory, working mens’ clubs, deprivation — not the Oxford that receives the usual attention. This was my ground and was overlooked.
